My Approach
Dr. Rhodes’ approach to therapy is authentic, collaborative, and person-centered. Each client’s specific needs and goals determine the approaches emphasized. She applies an integrative framework, utilizing various psychotherapy models, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, solutions-focused therapy, psychodynamic techniques, and emotion-focused family systems therapy.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most common and effective forms of psychotherapy, backed by extensive evidence. This therapeutic approach equips clients with cognitive (mental) and behavioral (action) skills to address their struggles. By fostering awareness of automatic thoughts, CBT encourages individuals to cultivate more balanced thinking.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) is an evidence-based approach designed to meet an individual’s needs for efficient, actionable solutions. By focusing on the future and leveraging clients’ strengths, SFT offers a dynamic alternative to traditional therapies that often dwell on past issues. This method is particularly suited to addressing challenges such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, substance use, and interpersonal relationship dynamics.

Psychodynamic Therapy recognizes that past experiences affect how we live in the present. It is important to explore early experiences, the relation between past and present, and the ways in which the past tends to “live on” in the present. The focus is not on the past for its own sake but on how the past sheds light on current psychological difficulties. The goal is to help clients free themselves from the bonds of past experiences to live more fully in the present.

Family Therapy focuses on the family as an emotional unit. The focus is on the entire family and how they all impact each other. As the family uncovers the source of the problem, they can work proactively on minimizing situations that may contribute to the negative behaviors. Family Therapy aims to promote collaboration and understanding among family members by examining the interdependence of familial relationships.
